The Teacher & Pianist

My teaching career began in 2018 as an in-home piano teacher for a music company local to Atlanta, Georgia. In 2020, I witnessed the effects of the pandemic and quarantine on my students -- who were all elementary children -- and felt a deep sense of duty to help lift their spirits through musical connection.I sought community support from Vibrant Music Teachers and my former Florida State colleague Christina Toole, who helped me prepare an audition program for graduate-level study.Under the tutelage of Dr. Sergio Gallo, I graduated from Georgia State University in May 2024 with a Master of Music degree in Piano Pedagogy. As a student, I served as the secretary of GSU’s Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Collegiate Chapter. I also volunteered as an accompanist and piano tutor.

For the summer of 2023, I was awarded scholarship funding to participate in the Chopin Academy of Atlanta and the Chopin Academy of Vienna. These one-week festivals were incredibly mind-expanding, offering masterclasses, lessons, and lectures from internationally acclaimed pianists and educators. My experience in Vienna, Austria changed my life, and I dream of providing such an experience for my own piano students some day.During my graduate years, I also exhibited with Piano Music Database at the 2024 MTNA Conference in Atlanta. Against 13 other competitors, I was awarded the Award of Excellence in the Georgia Music Teachers Association’s Upper College State Auditions. After graduating, serving as the pianist at Conyers Presbyterian Church, and performing at various venues around Atlanta, I moved back to my hometown in Florida.Currently, I teach piano for Vaccaro Piano and Creative Keys Music School.

Testimonials

"Made us tear up throughout the ceremony. Happy tears!"

"We were so happy to have Lauren as the pianist at our wedding. She was very accommodating of our requests and her performance on the day was fantastic and highly professional. We had asked for specific Star Wars themed music for the ceremony and the Beatles + Holiday music during the cocktail hour. The venue had two grand pianos (one in the ballroom and another in the living area). Even though I knew what she would play, it was so beautiful and special at the moment that I couldn't help but shed a tear. Despite Star Wars music being mainstream and iconic (even overused), she was able to find the right balance between recognizable and respectful. During the recessional, the DJ's sound system had a minor snag. To avoid disruption, Lauren improvised so our ceremony could continue even though she was not assigned to play that part. The cocktail hour was fun and lively, just how we wanted it to be. Everyone was smiling and upbeat. Overall, we couldn't have asked for more from Lauren. We wish her a stellar career ahead!"

- Vedant Das Swain's five-star review on Gigsalad.com

“…her playing enchants and mesmerizes her audience. Her presence as a performer combines technical prowess with a depth of artistic imagery and personal vulnerability…”

- Alice J., Master of Music

"At first, entering this class was anxiety-inducing for me while knowing I was being reintroduced to pretty much anything piano-related since I hadn't played in a few years. You were very welcoming to us and helped us get accommodated to the subject from a beginner's approach, which, in turn, helped me become more comfortable with the course and playing piano in general. I remember a brief period where I experienced a gargantuan amount of confusion during one of our chapters, so mustered up the courage to ask about tutoring. After our session, I was (and still am) very grateful for the tips and techniques you recommended me. The more I applied them, the more I saw improvement with my playing as well as sight reading. I don't own a piano just yet, but I intend to remain loyal to this long lost passion of mine, as I've rediscovered how exciting piano is. Putting simply, it's inspiring. And I look forward to developing my skillset to compose music of my own someday. Thank you again for an awesome semester!"

- Auset, a GSU student who took Group Piano for Non-Majors. She sent a thank-you letter through GSU's Thank-A-Teacher Program.
