About

In a society increasingly threatened by malaise from artificial intelligence, musical study becomes an act of peaceful rebellion. Devotion to deep artistry and tradition becomes an offering to humanity.

—Lauren Vaccaro

Preserving the Humanities Through Music

At Vaccaro Piano, we implement a healthy mix of structured, traditional curriculum and innovative, 21st century approaches. We believe in keeping alive the music of the past with quality (human) instruction in music literacy and practice, along with:

  • Listening and singing (or kazoo-ing);

  • Music theory and history;

  • Performing and fostering a culture of musical presence.

Vaccaro Piano accomplishes this through one-on-one instruction using beginner methods as well as the curriculum within The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificate Program.

RCM is a comprehensive system of music study and assessment from Elementary to Advanced levels. Read more about the benefits of RCM!

Supporting the Student’s Growth & Satisfaction

Depending upon the needs of the individual student, lessons are supplemented with:

  • Game-based learning;

  • Improvisation and duet playing;

  • And moving or conducting.

For intermediate students, games and improvisation serve as rewards for scale and repertoire practice, as their repertoire is longer and needs more attention during lessons than the music of elementary students.

Our core mission is to foster a lifelong love of music through one-on-one instruction and cultural immersion, and we believe this is only possible through the collaboration of teacher, parent, and student.

What is RCM?

For over 135 years, The Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Certificate Program has been an internationally leading institution — and for some countries, the gold standard — in music education and performance. It is a comprehensive system of music study and assessment from Elementary to Advanced levels that recognizes (and rewards) students’ progression. Students who participate tend to:

  • advance faster;

  • stick with music longer;

  • celebrate tangible achievements on a regular basis; and

  • build a track record of accomplishment that they can reference in the future on employment and education applications.

RCM’s Benefits

The following text comes from RCM’s website:

  • RCM’s integrated curriculum includes repertoire and etudes from the Baroque era to modern day, as well as music theory, ear training, technique development, and sight-reading.

  • Examinations are available for both Practical (performance) and Theory (written).

    • Practical examinations evaluate the performance of repertoire, etudes or vocalises, aural skills, sight reading or singing, and orchestral excerpts for string, brass, and wind instruments.

    • Theory examinations evaluate the understanding of theory basics such as musical notation. Advanced levels include harmony, counterpoint, analysis, and history.

    The Benefits of Exams

    • Build self-confidence

    • Encourage goal setting

    • Provide a national standard for students to track their progress

    • Promote well-rounded musical training

    What to Expect at an Examination

    • An objective assessment of the student’s skill for that level

    • A friendly yet professional atmosphere

    • Personalized feedback and marks available online within a few weeks

    • A Certificate of Achievement can be earned at each level of study by successfully completing all the requirements for each level of The Royal Conservatory Certificate Program.

    • The ARCT Diploma is recognized internationally and is one of the highest academic credentials awarded by The Royal Conservatory.

    • All examination candidates are eligible to receive Gold Medal awards from The Royal Conservatory. These awards are based on examination results.

    • Many school systems recognize RCM examinations for credit toward secondary school graduation.
